1. How do I use the E-mail button to send an e-mail?

In order to use the E-mail button on the Be@rPaw Paw 1200, you must first set the default e-mail client in Windows 98. The Be@rPaw 1200's E-mail function is currently only compatible with Outlook Express 4 or 5, Netscape Communicator 4.5 or Lotus cc:mail 8.0. (If you do not use one of these programs as your e-mail client, please see Question 2.)

To set the default e-mail client in Windows 98, follow the steps below:

  1. Click on the Start button, go to the Settings option then click on the Control Panel option; this will then open the Control Panel window.

  1. Double click on the Internet Options  icon within the Control Panel window and an Internet Properties window will open. Now click on the Programs tab, which will give you the options to specify which programs Windows will automatically use for each Internet service.
  2. The E-mail: field should be set to the E-mail client you will be using. The E-mail option on the Be@rPaw 1200 scanner is currently only compatible with Outlook Express 4 or 5, Netscape Communicator 4.5 or Lotus cc:Mail 8.0. The drop-down arrow to the right in the E-mail: field can be used to select the appropriate E-mail client. Click on the OK button when you are finished.

  1. When the E-mail option is activated on the Be@rPaw 1200 scanner it will scan your item, then automatically attach the scanned item to your E-mail using the E-mail client you selected in the steps above.

2. I don't use the programs compatible with the Be@rPaw 1200's E-mail button. How can I send an e-mail?

The Be@rPaw 1200's E-mail function is currently only compatible with Outlook Express 4 or 5, Netscape Communicator 4.5 or Lotus cc:mail 8.0. If you are using another program for e-mail, such as America Online, then see our Attaching Pictures to E-mail tutorial linked below.

3. My e-mailed images are too large and are taking too long to download because the resolution is too high. How can I change the default resolution from 200 dpi to 100 dpi?

Cause: The attached e-mail image file is too large when received by the e-mail recipient because the default resolution is 200 dpi. This occurs when using the "E-MAIL" button on the Be@rPaw Control panel located on the front of the scanner. This also occurs when using the "E-mail" icon within the Be@rPaw Panel, which is accessed by using the "PANEL" button located on the front of the scanner or through the "Direct Scan" icon located in the System Tray.

Solution: Follow the steps below to change the default resolution from 200 dpi to 100 dpi.

  1. Click on the "Start" button, select "Find" then click on "Files or Folders…"
  2. This will open a window entitled "Find: All Files."
  3. In the "Named:" field type: panel.ini.
  4. Make sure the "Look in:" field has the "[C:]" drive selected and that the "Include subfolders" box is checked.
  5. Click on the "Find Now" button.
  6. The lower part of the Find window will display the search results (NOTE: only one file should be found located in C:\Program Files\BearPaw1200\Panel).
  7. Click on the "Edit" menu then click on "Select All."
  8. Click on the "File" menu then click on "Open."
  9. This will open a window entitled "Panel.ini – Notepad." Scroll down to the [Email] section. (NOTE: if you have trouble finding the [Email] section, click on the "Search" menu then click "Find…" In the "Find what:" field, type the word Email then click on the "Find Next" button. This will take you to the [Email] section.)
  10. Go to the line SW_ScanRes=200.
  11. Change the line to SW_ScanRes=100.
  12. Go to the line HW_ScanRes=200.
  13. Change the line to HW_ScanRes=100.
  14. Click on the "File" menu then click on "Save."
  15. Click on the "File" menu then click on "Exit."

4. When saving files using Photo Express SE 3.0, the dialog boxes are now coming up in German or French instead of English. How do I change those back to English?
